beholding the beauty around me

Last night I was feeling kind of dismal, a little melancholy, and just generally down.  Though many people would describe me as a happy or bubbly person, I tend to be more than a tad negative on a regular basis.  I quite often have trouble seeing or appreciating the beauty in everyday life, for all my negativity so I thought it would be interesting to start a blog where I would be forced to look for and reflect on beauty on a regular basis.

For instance, today.  Today I sat, staring at a computer editing a magazine for close to 3 hours.  This is probably the 7th or 8th day that I have spent so many hours editing just one issue of the magazine, so needless to say, I am getting a bit sick of it.  So where is my beauty today?  The office of my church that I am working at today happens to be just outside the western city limits of Calgary.  It would be too obvious for me to say that my beauty today comes from the gorgeous mountain view just outside our foyer, so how about something a little more obscure?  As I walked down the back hallway, I smelt something I would never expect to smell inside the church…hay!  We have several acres of hay fields around our property and today a farmer was out baling his hay.  I love that smell!

The smell of hay is beautiful to me because it reminds me of the small horseback riding camp I grew up attending in Ontario.  Hay reminds of the days I first learned to love horses, and that is beautiful.

I haven’t had a blog since my first year of college, so I thought I’d give it a try again.  More soon.  For now, my most favourite beautiful picture.  This is happiness.
